A lifelong Oceanside resident, I am proud to serve the city of Oceanside as a councilmember for District 3 and Deputy Mayor. After a career as an Oceanside police officer and law enforcement executive, I was appointed to the City Council in 2019 and elected to my first full term the following year. As a leader of one of the largest cities in the county, I immediately confronted our most pressing issues- the homeless crisis, rising crime rates and our disappearing beaches while also delivering a balanced budget and ensuring our residents get the best value for their tax dollars.

Mike also serves on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee and is the leading Democrat on the Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity with jurisdiction over veterans housing and employment programs.

California is suffering from a continued explosion in theft and trafficking of deadly hard drugs like fentanyl, often because the people committing these crimes do not face serious consequences.
Prop 36 will make our communities safer by creating real accountability for those drug traffickers and criminals who repeatedly steal while also providing meaningful treatment incentives for individuals with mental health and drug addiction issues.
In June 2024, the Oceanside City Council approved adding the renewal of Measure X, a half-cent sales tax, to the November ballot without raising taxes. Over the past five years, Measure X has funded vital city services, including road repairs, safety improvements, homelessness programs, and youth initiatives. If renewed, this funding would continue through 2036, supporting further infrastructure projects, public safety, and homelessness reduction, with strict fiscal accountability measures in place.
